We have a historic opportunity to work together, responding to the challenges of the two disastrous hurricanes. The state now has no choice but to do much more with much less, and communities like Lafayette are facing the challenges of experiencing twenty years growth overnight.
In 2007, due to term limits, we will see the biggest change in the legislature in more than 50 years. I am looking forward to working with the new generation of leadership in Baton Rouge. This is an important chance to make Louisiana state government more effective, while making it smaller and more efficient.
With fiscally-responsible leaders willing to tackle the problems in our economy, struggling school system, the continuing medical crisis and the state’s ever-looming budget crisis, we can achieve real progress.
